Sigh

Here’s somethin’ stupid for your Friday: NIMBYism Takes Front Stage at Holder Hearing: The D.C. Examiner reports of a hearing on the Hill yesterday where Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) told Attorney General Eric Holder in no uncertain terms that he opposes a plan floated by the Obama administration to move some Guantanamo detainees to a [...]

Dude, you live in America

GAH!  Why oh why can’t we have better civics classes?  Or, like, any civics classes?  Especially for those who opine about civics.  I apologize in advance:  This sort of thing gets me so incensed that I can’t argue, I can only rant. We have multiple points of failure for legislation in order to provide opportunities [...]

Dept of Catching Up: relativism

Interesting post. The reaction I always have to this argument about Jefferson is this: I don’t really disagree. He was unable to live up to his own ideals for basically selfish reasons. What he said

On Bill Moyers’ Journal this week, he ended his opening commentary with this:  “Perhaps the real birth pangs of democracy are here, among the lawyers, judges, and students risking everything for their constitution.” Lawyers protesting abuse of their nation’s constitution.  (OK, total abrogation.)  Wow.  I am saddened by how complacent we have become.

Kids today

MY complains about the Constitution.  Again. What bothers me about this is that, while it is indeed difficult to amend the Constitution, in the minds of most Americans this is what keeps it sound.  People understand that its ambiguous language is ambiguous for a reason – the document should be able to grow and change [...]

Dag-nabbit

UPDATE: OK, so I was feeling a little stressed out last evening. A nice, long walk in the rich people’s neighborhood fixed that. Apologies to all bloggers mentioned below. I love you guys, I really do. — Would all those young liberal bloggers I often spend time reading on the way home from work, PLEASE [...]
