Friday has arrived…finally. I’ve been enoying Ken Burns’ The National Parks all week, thinking, “oooh, pretty” and, “why haven’t I been to the Grand Canyon?” as I watch those soothing, lazy rollovers. It’s made me remember all the fun Steve and I had visiting Denali, and traipsing around on Portage Glacier. Nothing beats having a relative who lives in Alaska. Work the connections you have, folks. It’s usually worth it.
Of course, now I want my next “big” trip to be a visit to Glacier National Park, before all the, you know, glaciers have completely receded. We’ll see if I get my act together for that. It competes with an idea I once had to visit all the presidential libraries/historic homes. Does this come from having a relative working at the Roosevelt home for all those years? Or the worst field trip ever, to Van Buren’s house? (Best field trip ever? Fort Ticonderoga!) Plus, MS and I have a tentative plan to visit Peru…need to save numerous pennies for that one!
In the end, I’ll probably “stay-cation” a few more times, just as I have for the past few years. DC is just as fun as any other place.
What will your next big vacation be?
- Lyric of the day: “we will be victorious”
- Flashback of the day: “if you are not in the band, or going home with a member of the band, then get the hell out of here!”
- As I write this, what’s playing? The Gaslight Anthem’s “Old White Lincoln,” off The ’59 Sound
