Well, I was going to post this as a comment over on MY’s blog, but then I realized that would be stupid since it’s really just yet another BigLaw rant:
Commenter Micah said: Although there are lots of goddamn lawyers.
To which I say: The starting salary at a Biglaw DC firm these days is approx. $150K. (It was $145K two years ago, when I left). Yes, they’re laying folks off and deferring others, and you do have to basically live in your office. (I never understood why the first-years didn’t live like other 24-year-olds in DC, get roommates, etc., and pay off their high-priced law schools? Instead they would immediately buy a $70,000 BMW or something, and live in a $2500-a-month condo, and then whine that The Firm didn’t supply them with a laptop because they “couldn’t afford” to buy their own.)
Wow, I totally just went OT there, didn’t I? See, that’s why it’s here, and not there.
