European MPG, that’s what.
Take, for example, last week’s Top Gear “race”, wherein the three hosts started in Basel, Switzerland, and ended up in Blackpool, England (well, two of the three; one of them was too slow). They were challenged to make the 750-mile journey, in a car, on one tank of fuel. A single tank. No refueling.
Did you get that? They taped their fuel tanks shut in Basel, and did not open them again.
Yes, the tanks were Imperial (more gas in the tank, by about 20%). Yes, they were using Diesels, but it’s not like you can’t buy a diesel car in the US. Even converting down to US mileage, we are talking about way more than the CAFE standards.
Give it a watch. Like all Top Gear races, it’s pretty hilarious.
